Available to Burnaby residents in financial need. Can be used for programs at any Burnaby, Parks, Recreation and Culture facility for admissions and programs.

Home support services focus on helping people with physical limitations manage activities of daily living. Home support services are provided based on eligibility and require an assessment and referral from a Home Health professional.

Health and lifestyle information and articles for seniors and others over 50. Includes information on eating well, staying active, independent living and more. WebMD is a leading consumer health information website with information on a variety of health topics.

Social activities

Burnaby has four centres that are places that specialize in programs for adults 55 and older. These are busy, friendly places where you can meet and socialize, learn new skills and enjoy creative leisure time.

This non-profit organization aids peers in supporting the emotional well being of seniors, including independence, self-esteem and the achievement of individual goals

Through workshops, seniors’ fairs and the innovative use of the internet and social media, we offer information to Burnaby seniors and their families on issues that impact their lives. We accomplish this through the efforts of our members which reflect our commitment to supporting one of our most valuable resources – our elder population.

Programs have been developed to support the needs of housebound seniors enabling them to live independently. If you are a senior, over 65 and residing in Burnaby in need of our services please contact us.

This Neighbourhood House offers three seniors programs; Seniors Together Program (STP), Seniors Outreach Program, and Volunteer Seniors Outreach Ambassador Training Program.

Volunteer Grandparents are dedicated to the fulfillment and well-being of individual lives with the facilitation of intergenerational connections.

Education

The program supports the educational needs of a variety of Burnaby's learners including new immigrants; the employed, unemployed, and underemployed; seniors; youth and those simply interested in learning something new.

This college offers a variety of courses and workshops for persons over the age of 55, all of which are designed to maintain physical, mental, and social well-being.

MOSAIC Seniors Program provides social and learning opportunities for immigrant and refugee adults, starting from 55 years of age.

Housing

The society has a portfolio of 49 projects/3,112 units in 13 municipalities, all located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

BC Housing is the provincial crown agency that develops, manages, and administers a wide range of subsidized housing options for BC seniors who are 55 years or older and have a gross household income below a yearly amount set by CMHC.

The Seniors Housing Directory of BC can help you on your housing search by generating a list of seniors housing buildings based on two criteria that you select: area and type of housing.

This site provides information to make your family's senior living and retirement transition as seamless as possible. The tools, guides, tips and articles can help guide you through the process. Some information refers to US seniors only, but there is Canadian content as well.

Transportation

Low-income seniors and persons with disabilities may be eligible to buy a yearly BC Transit bus pass at a reduced cost through the B.C. Bus Pass Program.

Better at Home is a program to help seniors to live in their own homes longer by providing simple non-medical support services such as transportation to medical appointments. The program is funded by the Government of British Columbia and managed by the United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM).

HandyDART is a door-to-door shared-ride service using specially-equipped vehicles designed to carry passengers with physical or cognitive disabilities who need assistance to use public transit.

Home services

Burnaby Meals on Wheels promotes health and independence by providing nutritious, local and affordable food to people who - for physical, social or economic reasons - are unable to meet their dietary needs.

Burnaby Public Library's Home Library and Accessible Services delivers materials free of charge, once every four weeks, to Burnaby residents of any age who are confined to home for three months or more because of ill health, frailty, visual or physical disability.

Home Care Nursing is for people who need care at home, temporarily or indefinitely, for a variety of health reasons.

Pensions and finance

The Allowance is a monthly benefit for low-income seniors (aged 60-64) whose spouse or common-law partner is eligible for, or currently receiving, the Old Age Security (OAS) pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).

This society acts as a resource for those who are delivering new or additional services for seniors in Burnaby, BC. To educate members and the community around emerging senior's issues, needs and programs and to avoid duplication of services to seniors in Burnaby.

The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) provides a monthly non-taxable benefit to low-income Old Age Security (OAS) recipients living in Canada.

If you have lived or worked in another country, or you are the survivor of someone who has lived or worked in another country, you may be eligible for benefits from Canada or abroad.

This organization provides democratic, non-political, non-sectarian information on issues that are important to seniors.

Provides information about the maximum and average monthly amounts for Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and the Allowances, as well as the maximum annual income to be eligible for these benefits.

Legal services and estate planning

Clicklaw is operated by the Courthouse Libraries BC as part of their mission to improve public access to legal information. It features legal information and education, but it is not a site of laws. Instead, Clicklaw features legal information and education designed for the public from over 24 contributor organizations, as well as selected others.

Offers support circles, a support line, legal resource guides, advocacy and referrals for grandparents who are the primary caregivers for their grandchildren.

Download a copy of the Little Black Book of Scams from this website. The Little Black Book of Scams is full of information on how to avoid being caught up in a scam and on how to report fraud to the appropriate authorities.

Provides a range of services to adults who may need help managing their affairs as well as to their families, legal representatives, the courts and the general public.

This group operates a legal advocacy telephone line and provides information, referrals, and legal advocacy to seniors and the people who work with seniors, province-wide.

UBC law students provide free legal advice and representation to clients who would otherwise be unable to afford legal assistance.
