Programs and events

Burnaby Public Library offers a variety of programs and services designed to assist Burnaby residents who are new to Canada. Past programs have included workshops and seminars on legal topics, employment, professional accreditation for new immigrants and more. The library also regularly hosts drop-in ESL conversation circles designed to help you practice English in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

ESL and multilingual collection

Burnaby Public Library has an extensive ESL collection and a variety of materials in languages other than English.

Newcomers' resources

Visit the Newcomers' Resources area on the second floor of the Bob Prittie Metrotown Branch for materials of interest to new residents. Pick up your copy of the BC Newcomers' Guide to Resources and Services, find out about English language courses available in the area, and learn about Canadian citizenship and immigration. Many publications are free and several are available in multiple languages.

Services for refugees and sponsors

Burnaby Public Library welcomes refugees from around the world to Burnaby. In addition to offering newcomer programs and resources, we can provide library tours and meeting rooms for sponsor groups.
