Home Delivery
Our patrons who register for home delivery are visited by Home Library and Accessible Service once every four weeks. We bring our patrons material that have been pre-selected by staff, and requests for specific items are always encouraged. Our decisions on what to bring you are based on a borrowing profile that can be altered and updated at any time, and we encourage our patrons to give us feedback on any or all the material we bring them.
Institutional Delivery
Like our Home Delivery Service, we can also visit individuals who live in a group living arrangement once every four weeks. Group living arrangements are institutions such as a care facility, seniors' residences, a private hospital, or a group home. As with our Home Delivery service, we bring our Institutional Delivery patrons material that have been pre-selected by staff, and requests for specific items are always encouraged. Again, our decisions on what to bring you are based on a borrowing profile that can be altered and updated at any time, and we encourage our patrons to give us feedback on any or all the material we bring them.
Institutions may also request to have HLAS bring a "mini library" of material for residents to browse and borrow during our visit. Institutions may also inquire about the possibility of hosting a deposit collection of BPL material for their residents, which is exchanged every 4 weeks.
Accessible Audiobook Service
While all our patrons can ask for audiobooks, there is a special collection of accessible audiobooks and equipment reserved for those patrons who have a perceptual disability, which is a disability that prevents or inhibits a person from reading a work in its original form. Visit Eligibility of Service for more information.
HLAS partners with service providers such as Public Library InterLINK, Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) , and National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) to provide our audiobook patrons with exclusive access to additional accessible material.
Burnaby residents may choose from having their material delivered to them at home, available for pick-up at any BPL branch during branch hours, available for pick up at Home Library Service (M-F, 9:00am-4:30pm), or mailed.
Non-Burnaby residents may choose between having their material available for pick-up at a BPL branch or by visiting Home Library and Accessible Service.
