Home Library and Accessible Service has its own collection of regular print, large print, music cds, dvds, and audiobooks just for our patrons. We also have access to the rest of BPL's collection, if our patrons request specific material that HLAS does not own.
Our patrons are encouraged to make requests for material they wish to borrow and for material they think is beneficial to the HLAS collection.
Fiction
Available in both regular print and large-print, Home Library and Accessible Service has its own collection of adult fiction books, including mysteries, adventures, romance, and general fiction.
Non-fiction
Available in both regular print and large-print, our non-fiction collection is based on bestsellers and patron requests. We have a strong collection of high-interest non-fiction, including such topics like history and biography. We also have books with a strong emphasis on images and photographs.
Music CDs
We have a small collection of music on compact disc, comprising of popular hits, jazz, and classical artists.
DVDs
Home Library and Accessible Service has a small collection of DVDs for exclusive use by our patrons which contains feature films, documentaries, and TV shows.
Audiobooks
Our audiobook collection is available to all HLAS borrowers and consists of books recorded on CDs and MP3s. Many CD players will play both CDs and MP3s, but our users are encouraged to test their equipment and let HLS know if you have issues with a format.
Accessible Audiobooks and Taped Books
HLAS is home to a special collection of accessible audiobooks only for those patrons who have a perceptual or print disability. In addition to MP3s and Daisy Discs (recorded books formatted especially for people with print disabilities), we also have a limited collection of taped books on cassette. We also have the ability to order and distribute material from other accessible service providers, if we do not own our own copy of a requested item. Our Accessible Audiobook collection is made possible through our partnership with Public Library InterLINK, Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), and the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS).
Home Library and Accessible Service also owns a limited number of Daisy Disc/MP3 players, called Victor Readers, for eligible patrons to borrow.
