Community Outreach is a term we use to describe our activities outside the walls of our buildings. We want to engage, encourage, and serve you where you live and where you need us.
Outreach Visits
Our Librarians and library staff reach out into the community in many ways. Some librarians visit schools, other staff visit community service providers and places where the community gathers; we also participate at many neighbourhood events, such as Hats Off Day or Edmonds Neighbourhood Fair.
Outreach Vehicle and Pop-Up libraries
Starting January 2016, BPL's Outreach Vehicle will be out and about in the community! We can bring "Pop-Up Libraries" almost anywhere in Burnaby in order to make the library more accessible.
A Pop-Up Library is essentially a satellite library: an event where library staff brings a selection of the library's collection to a location in the community. We can bring material for all ages, or geared towards a specific age group depending on where the pop-up library is hosted.
Visitors to a Pop-Up Library will be able to browse, return, and borrow library material, create a library card (children under 16 will need a parent or guardian to sign up), and learn about the library and its services. We also often bring a small craft or activity to keep the kids entertained.
Where we’ll be

Where you’d like to see us
If you'd like to make a recommendation on where the library should visit, please email! We are also happy to consider invitations to community events, fairs, and other types of meet ups (such as information sessions). We find that our Pop-up Libraries are most successful when we partner with other events happening in the community.
We're also versatile! Not only can we bring parts of the collection geared towards expected visitors' age and interest, we can also tailor our set up configuration and material we bring to best suit the venue. We can set up to three tables of library material, indoors or outdoors.
